Common Methods for Reducing Radon

Sub-Slab Depressurization

This is the most commonly installed system. A suction is created by a fan that draws radon from beneath the concrete slab and vents the radon outdoors. Piping can run either internal or external depending upon the home's floor plan.

Sub-Membrane Depressurization

This system is used in houses with crawl spaces. A suction is created under a plastic sheet placed on exposed soil or rock. The radon gases are then collected and exhausted outdoors. This system is commonly tied to sub-slab depressurization and typically more costly to do.

Sump/Drain Tile Depressurization

The suction is applied to the sump or drain tile and draws radon from beneath the building and exhausts it outside using Radon fan, P.V.C. pipe and down spout.

Passive System Conversion

New houses sometimes have a passive system installed by the builder. If radon levels test high, a passive system can be made active with the addition of a fan and necessary pipe and sealing of basement slab as needed.
